Anatomy Review
Cost: $60.00

Human anatomy or anthropotomy is a special field within anatomy. It studies organs and organ systems of the human body, leaving the study of tissues to histology and cells to cytology. The human body, like the bodies of all animals, is made up of systems, that are made up of organs, that are made up of tissues, that are made up of cells.

Anatomy and Physiology II
Cost: $60.00

Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body. Derived from the Greek=to cut up: the Latin 'to cut up' gives us dissect. Structure determines function and vice versa. Understanding the links between structure and function is intellectually more satisfying than learning lists, and makes long term retention easier. The abnormal patterns seen in disease are also related to anatomy: the transmission of stress from outstretched hand to trunk determines the location of skeletal fractures. The structure of the mouth determines the route of puss from a dental abscess. During this unit course we shall continually stress both the relationship between structure and function and the relationship between structure and disease. This portion of the unit covers nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic and reproductive systems.

The Brain: Structure and Function
Cost: $60.00

The brain, along with the heart, is one of the two most important organs in the human body. Loss of function in this organ fufills some definitions of death. Injuries to the brain tend to affect large areas of the brain, sometimes causing major deficits in intelligence, memory and control of the body. Head trauma, caused by automobile accidents or other blows to the skull, is a leading cause of death. Often in these cases, more damage is caused by swelling, or edema, than by the impact itself. Stroke, caused by blockage of blood vessels in the brain, is another major cause of death and brain damage.

Syndesmology: Ligaments and Joints
Cost: $60.00

Massage is widely used for pain relief, not least because anyone can perform it on himself or others, but its results are open to question. At best, massage may relieve muscle ache or tension by increasing blood flow, but its results are relatively short-lived. For best results, use an oil or cream to enable your hands to slide over the skin more easily, or perform the massage with a mentholated gel to further ease the pain. Massage should be avoided when joints are especially tender or inflamed, since it can actually worsen your condition at such times. If you're having a massage done by a professional masseur or masseuse, make sure he or she understands that, because of your arthritis, you want to have only their most gentle procedure.
